Material and finish
Hand carved: This hair pin is made from Brazilian bloodwood.! It is hand sanded it through several grades of sandpaper finishing off with 1500 grit for a silky, snag free finish! Wet sanded to prevent fuzzing and finished with beeswax and linseed oil blend. The colour can vary from a bold pink to a bright red. It has a wavy pattern throughout the wood.
This hair wooden pin is very smooth and easily slide into hair while holding it perfectly in shape. Simply clip into hair with web-like motions. Ideal for quick updos and the classic banana hairstyle! It takes some practice to figure out the right twist to keep it in and comfortable.
Be careful not to push into thick hair as it will break.
Top wide: about 1" in at widest point
Wood is friendly, warm and light to wear. Keep a few simple things in mind and your hair pin will last for years. Here are a few tips:
Avoid dropping them hard on surfaces. Although wood is a fairly flexible material it can split or snap when dropped onto a hard surface like cement, porcelain or ceramic tiled floor.
2. Avoid applying excessive force or bending
Don't try to bend your hair pin as this is likely to result in it snapping. They are fragile, and can break put as little sideways pressure as possible on them.
3. Don't submerge them in water
Wood is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs and releases water. Although your hair pin has been treated with a natural beeswax it is still a good idea to stay away from plunging them into the bath or shower.
4. Feed your wooden pin
Your hair pin will absorb natural oils from your hair and skin if worn regularly. Every once in a while it's a good idea to feed the wood with a natural oil to help keep it from drying out. A Cutting Board Oil is ideal for the job. It is best to avoid cooking oils. After feeding your wooden pin we recomend to wax it up with a waterproof wood wax like ours.
Dark wood hair pins wll tend to darken further over time and lighter woods will turn a deeper hue. In both cases it's likely your hair pin will look better and better with age.
